The Free Release includes the original mechs and weapons of MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries as well as the Clan and IS Mech Packs and all the Mektek mechs and weapons, and various other improvements. Add '/gosnovideo' to the end of the launch link in the shortcut and try that. If it doesn't work, create a shortcut to the executable. If it works and you get to the 'create account' screen (or whatever it's called), exit.

Their first great accomplishment was the MekPaks, a series of unofficial expansion to MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries. They should have gone with a better hosting provider like Akamai and MediaTemple. I know these guys meant well and I'm thankful for the release, just like everyone else, and I hate to hammer on them, but it could have been handled so much better. Did no one stop and think that if their project was more popular than they thought, they would have a backup plan if the servers decided to commit suicide under the load? Like by throwing the torrent up on some torrent sites? They went thru the trouble to make this really crappy app to download a torrent file when they could have eased their anxiety and stress by having us gamers use the tried and proven methods of downloading torrents already, like u Torrent or Bittorrent. They commented here a few weeks ago that they were trying to get all the little bugs out so they were ready for the day of release. I just think if you're gonna hype the crap out of something and get us gamers all salivating at the thing, then just be sure you're ready to do what you said you would. Ok, that comment is like 'Well, if they were giving out free coffee and then you found out someone pissed in the pot, are you going to complain about it or just be glad you got something wet to drink for free?'.But I'm not jumping into that discussion - it goes nowhere.

Yes, I'm complaining about something you get for free on the internet. I swore I just said that about 10 posts ago. is to buy the MW4 cds, and just live without all the hard work that the mektek crew put in for the MW community.If someone has already downloaded the torrent file, then they can post it a file front or megaupload or google or somewhere. Take the role of Spectre a male mercenary BattleMech pilot travelling inside the fictional interstellar region of the Battletech universe called the Inner Sphere during the FedCom Civil War Earn. Now your only legal option, if you don't have the old free release/patches floating around. It is apparently legal, however, to keep and use any old copies of said MW4 free release you have. They're making money for MS on the IP and they would be the natural ones to say it's ok given that it's an older release in the same series of games. PGI probably could prod MS into allowing the free release or the patches out, what with PGI being the current lesee of MS's mechwarrior IP. When smith and tinker went under it apparently got very hard to nearly impossible for them to keep supporting the free release/patches legally and at this point it's virtually out of their hands as to whether it will ever be legal to distribute again. Mektek no longer has the legal rights to distribute the MW4 free release - and I'm not sure they have the rights anymore to distribute the mekpatches either.
